Official answer : No.
Many years ago I picked up this domain name. Not knowing what to do with it, there have been many incarnations of the site.
Finally (circa 2009) I settled on “Data Mafia” as my handle for coding in the open source and social coding realm. At the same time this domain began to be my primary email for correspondence.
Personally I love the domain name. In the modern post-conservative era of the wild-wild-web, this type of moniker is commonplace. Additionally, this does describe life in the digital fast lane where we need to be assertive, aggressive, and street smart in dealing with the reality of how fast data is moving.
The modern web is built on the shoulders of giants, but still we lack rules when you compare web development and digital lifestyle to other career paths with decades or centuries of history. This web stuff only began to hit (seriously) starting in 2000.
Data Mafia is indeed an LLC and legal business entity.
However, I do work in E-Commerce and other sensitive areas of the web and I fully understand that any reference to the mob, mafia, and other underworld terms is not desirable in the larger business world. This is why my main company is Interzone Multi-Media LLC.
On the web, and professionally I keep 2 distinct personalities.
The “Data Mafia” personality is the t-shirt wearing, [various] convention attending, open source coder who is socially aware, liberal in the application of work, and overall pretty darn fun.
The “Interzone Multi-Media LLC” is my conservative business side where I consult and contribute on an enterprise level for most projects. This company keeps a low profile on the web and is 100% centered on project acquisition, quality work, and doing everything in my power to increase revenue for the people and companies who hire me.
